Building financial literacy through clear communication

Financial Communication That Actually Works

Most budget discussions end in frustration. Someone's confused, someone's defensive, and nothing gets resolved. We've spent years figuring out why that happens—and how to fix it. This program teaches practical methods for talking about money in ways that bring clarity instead of conflict.

Built From Real Situations

We didn't develop this curriculum in isolation. Every module comes from actual challenges we've encountered while helping South African businesses get their financial communication sorted. The awkward conversations about budget cuts. The meetings where numbers got misinterpreted. The emails that created more confusion than clarity.

You won't find theory for theory's sake here. Each session focuses on situations you'll recognize—like explaining why certain expenses matter, or helping team members understand financial constraints without damaging morale.

The programme runs over twelve weeks with sessions every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 18:00 to 20:30, starting in August 2026. We keep groups small—never more than sixteen participants—because financial communication skills develop through practice and feedback, not lectures.

What You'll Actually Learn

The programme covers four main areas. We've structured it so each builds on the previous one, but you'll see practical applications from week one.

Understanding Financial Perspectives

Different people interpret the same numbers completely differently. Operations teams see budgets one way, finance departments another. We'll explore why these gaps exist and teach you to recognize them before they cause problems. This includes exercises with real budget documents and recorded conversations that went sideways.

Presenting Numbers That Make Sense

How you present financial information matters as much as the information itself. We'll work through methods for structuring budget presentations, writing financial updates, and explaining variances in ways that actually land with your audience. You'll practice multiple approaches and get direct feedback on what works.

Difficult Financial Conversations

Discussing budget reductions, rejected proposals, or unexpected costs never feels comfortable. This module teaches specific techniques for these conversations—how to prepare, what to say first, how to handle pushback, and how to keep relationships intact when delivering unwelcome financial news.

Building Financial Understanding in Teams

The final section focuses on developing financial literacy across your organization. We'll cover methods for helping non-finance team members grasp budget concepts, creating communication systems that prevent misunderstandings, and establishing regular financial discussions that people actually find useful rather than tedious.

Next Intake Details

We're accepting applications now for the August 2026 programme. Sessions take place at our Durban office, with the option to join remotely for up to four sessions if needed.

Programme begins 4 August 2026

You'll need to commit to attending at least ten of the twelve sessions, and you should plan for about three hours of preparation work per week. We find that participants who engage with the practice exercises between sessions get substantially better results.
